Temporary protection in Spain for Ukrainian citizens

Ukrainian citizens can apply for temporary protection in Spain, obtaining the right to legal residence, work, and social assistance. This status has been extended until March 2026.

Who is eligible for temporary protection?

• Ukrainians who lived in the country before February 24, 2022, along with their immediate family members.
• Foreign nationals who were granted international protection in Ukraine before February 24, 2022.
• Ukrainian citizens who were in Spain before the war started and cannot return.
• Individuals with a residence permit in Ukraine who cannot safely return to their home country.

Where can you submit an application?

There are two ways to apply for temporary protection in Spain:

• Reception and Coordination Centers (CREADE) – located in major cities.
• National Police Stations – based on your place of residence.

You must schedule an appointment before applying. This can be done by calling the hotline (+34) 91 047 44 44, where assistance is available in Spanish and Ukrainian.

What is the application process?

1. Document preparation:
   • Biometric passport (if available).
   • Child’s birth certificate (if applicable).
   • Proof of residence in Spain (if available).
2. Schedule an appointment: Choose the nearest CREADE center or National Police station.
3. Submit your application: During the appointment, you will fill out a form and provide the necessary documents.
