After giving your fingerprints, the wait for the card begins. One important point in Madrid: there is no single lot number for the whole province. Each office receives its TIE cards separately. That is why Poblados, Getafe, Móstoles, Alcalá de Henares, Torrejón de Ardoz or Fuenlabrada can be working with very different numbers even when fingerprints were taken around the same time. First check which office appears on your receipt, then find the lot number. If you see something like 2026/015, N: 150, the useful number is 015. The number after N: is not your lot.
Do not expect the lot to move at the same speed every week. Sometimes several changes happen within a few days, followed by a longer period with no movement. If someone you know has already collected their TIE, it does not mean your card is delayed. They may have given fingerprints at another police office and be following a different lot. Once you know the correct office and number, you can follow the progress of your own card.
When your lot is shown as ready, check the collection rules as well. Some offices require an appointment, while others work differently. Your NIE is your identification number, while the TIE is the physical card you are waiting for after giving fingerprints. To see whether the card can already be collected, check your office and lot number on the TIE status page.
